Like a ship in the mist, there emerges from these tragicomic lives, fraught with desires and delusions, recognition of ourselves.
"Westsiders" is an enthralling read. I would have said "particularly if you are familiar with Corner Brook." But really the stories are set so long ago that only those who have memories of the West Coast city in the 1930s and ‘40s will be struck with nostalgia.
It’s a very even collection of stories, which sounds like faint phrase, but really isn’t. It’s rare to find a collection without one or two stories that don’t strike a chord, but this is a definite exception.
