The Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre-known to all as “the Janeway”-celebrated 50 years of operation in 2016. For 43 of those years, Dr. Austin Rick Cooper has been a pediatrician at the hospital, helping thousands of sick children from across Newfoundland and Labrador.

Austin Rick Cooper completed his residency in pediatrics at Dalhousie University in 1969 and an infectious diseases fellowship in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1973. He then moved back to his native Newfoundland and Labrador as a teaching physician and practicing paediatrician at the Janeway. He retired as a faculty member of Memorial University’s medical school in 2011.
